Ask anyone what they think is the most famous form of music in the world and naturally they will give different answers, probably related to their own musical tastes, but there is no doubting a lot of people will say Rock music.
When we think of rock music we think of many different bands and musicians that have emerged since the 1960s such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Black Sabbath and many more. The problem is that rock music is so loosely defined it is hard to decide what is ‘Rock’ and what isn’t.
This is why there are so many different sub genres of Rock, ranging from Glam rock (T Rex, Ziggy Stardust), Progressive Rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Marillion, Genesis) and Heavy Metal (Black Sabbath, Metallica) to less obvious choices like Folk Rock (Bob Dylan, Neil Young).
With so much choice, it is no wonder so many people describe themselves as fans of Rock with new generations taking after the older ones. Because of the way in which it evolves and changes over time we can expect rock to exist in new forms way into the future.
